CUHK President Joins Global University Presidents’ Forum of Nanjing University
Professor Rocky Tuan, Vice-Chancellor and President of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), was invited to participate in the Global University Presidents’ Forum on 19 May for the 120th Anniversary Celebration of Nanjing University (NJU). The Forum themed “Inherit to Innovate, Change to Lead: New Paradigms and Missions of Universities” gathered Presidents from 41 universities across the globe to discuss on the missions and future of higher education. Participants joined two sessions of “New Opportunities and Missions for Talent Training in the New Era” and “Innovative Development of Research Collaboration and Social Services”, to exchange views on the challenges and vision of universities.
CUHK and NJU has been in close partnership since 1994 in a wide range of collaborative projects including research collaboration and student exchange programme. Both universities joined hands to build the joint scoliosis research center in 2006 with the aim of promoting research development and talent nurturing as China’s first research unit in scoliosis. Prof. Tuan sent a video message in February this year to congratulate NJU on its 120th anniversary and hoped that the two universities would continue joint efforts to promote the further development of higher education.
CUHK Participates in the 1st Beijing-HK-Macao Postgraduate Student Forum in Chinese Studies
The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) participated in the first Beijing-Hong Kong-Macao Postgraduate Student Forum in Chinese Studies online on 7 May. The Forum was hosted by the School of Chinese Language and Literature of Beijing Normal University, and co-organized by the Department of Chinese Language and Literature of CUHK and the Department of Chinese Language and Literature of the University of Macau. Prof. Tang Sze-Wing, Chairman of CUHK Department of Chinese Language and Literature, delivered a speech at the opening ceremony on behalf of CUHK. Twelve postgraduate students from host universities gave presentations at the Forum, and received instant comments and suggestions from 8 linguistic scholars from Beijing, Hong Kong and Macao. More than 600 academics and students from universities and research institutions across the 3 regions watched the live broadcast of the event and participated in the discussion.
With the theme of “New Horizons of Chinese Linguistics Research”, the Forum organized three thematic sessions. CUHK postgraduate students participated in the sessions and delivered reports according to the sub-themes. After each presentation, reviewers gave specific comments in terms of literature utilization, corpus collection, and article writing.
