Chinese Classics Recital Show




The Chinese University of Hong Kong participated in the Chinese Classics Recital Show in Hong Kong and Macao from 18 to 23 November 2024. To further deepen the cultural and language interflow between the mainland and Hong Kong and Macao, the activities were organized by the Language Application Management Division, and the Office of Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan Affairs of the Ministry of Education, in collaboration with the Hong Kong Education Bureau and the Macao Education and Youth Development Bureau, themed “Illuminating China, Inheriting Cultural Legacy.”
Over 1000 participants, teachers and students from various institutions including the National Language Promotion Bases (Fudan University, Central Academy of Drama, and Southwest University), Tung Wah Group of Hospitals Wong Hok Shan Secondary School, Macao University of Science and Technology and Macao Academy of Performing Arts participated in the event to exchange and showcase their talents and to promote Chinese culture.
CUHK Organizes Chinese Academy of Engineering Academicians Visit Programme



The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) held The 14th Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) Academicians Visit Programme cum Lecture Series from 1 to 3 December on campus. Three distinguished academicians from the Division of Medicine and Health including Professor Yu Jinming, Professor Gao Tianming, and Professor Huang Xiaojun were invited to visit CUHK. The academicians were warmly received by CUHK senior management members including Professor Dennis Lo, Vice-Chancellor and President Designate. Meetings were held to provide updates on the recent development of the University. They delivered public lectures for the Lecture Series by Academicians to share experience and expertise in their respective fields of research.
To foster exchanges between elite professionals in Hong Kong and the Chinese Mainland, CUHK introduced the CAE Academicians Visit Programme. This initiative aims to invite up to five CAE members annually to visit CUHK. During their visit, academicians will share their profound insights with CUHK faculty members and students, further strengthening academic ties between CUHK and CAE. The programme also seeks to foster linkages across various research fields with CAE, paving the way for future collaborative endeavors.
2024 Frontier Forum on Basic Medicine and Clinical Translational Research
The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) organized the 2024 Frontier Forum on Basic Medicine and Clinical Translational Research on campus from 3 to 4 December 2024. The event aimed to leverage interdisciplinary exchanges among scholars and experts to grasp the current state and development trends in tumor research, seeking significant breakthroughs in addressing cutting-edge issues that meet the major needs of national development. This year’s forum featured six academicians from the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering as keynote speakers, along with over 20 distinguished scholars from mainland China and Hong Kong, who presented academic reports to foster scholarly exchange and collaboration.
Guests officiating at the opening ceremony included Ms Wu Cheng, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Educational, Scientific and Technological Affairs of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in HKSAR; CUHK Pro-Vice-Chancellor Professor Sham Mai-Har; Mr. Yang Zhipeng, Director of Personnel Bureau of National Science Foundation China (NSFC); Mr. Hsu Hoi-Shan, President of Beijing Hong Kong Academic Exchange Center (BHKAEC); and Professor Yu Jun, Assistant Dean of Medicine of CUHK.
Professor Sham said at the ceremony, “CUHK has been devoting to world-class research and transferring the research outcomes, particularly in the medical field, where CUHK has achieved significant accomplishments. These efforts have made important contributions to improving the quality of medical services and promoting public health. The research outcomes not only drive the development of medical technology but also provide a scientific basis for the formulation of public health policies.
Since 2007, CUHK and NSFC have co-organized annual academic symposiums with different themes together with BHKAEC, to provide platforms for intellectual exchange between scientists and scholars in China mainland and Hong Kong, while exploring collaboration opportunities. Previous topics included Quantum Information Science and Technology, Smart Cities, Bio-informatics and Its Applications, Chemical Biology, Condensed Matter and Optical Physics, Developmental Studies in Health and Diseases, Control and Automation, Climate Change, Digestive Disease, Big Data, Adolescent Mental Health and Disorders, Big Data Driven Management and Decision, AI, Climate Change, Health and Sustainability, and Bone and Joint Degeneration and Regeneration.
CUHK Unveils the Plaque for the International Satellite Data and Application Cooperation Council Unit and Opening of the 2nd Youth Innovation Forum on Digital Earth
On 5 December, The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) organized the plaque unveiling ceremony of the first China National Space Administration (CNSA) International Satellite Data and Application Cooperation Council Unit in Hong Kong, and kicked off the 2nd Youth Innovation Forum on Digital Earth, marking a new milestone for Hong Kong in space and digital technology.
Guests attending the event included Professor Sun Dong, Secretary for Innovation, Technology and Industry in the Hong Kong government; Professor Rocky S. Tuan, the then Vice-Chancellor and President of CUHK; Ms Wu Cheng, Deputy Director of the Department of Educational, Scientific and Technological Affairs in the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Hong Kong SAR; Professor Gong Jianya, Academician, Chinese Academy of Sciences; Mr Wang Fengyu, Executive Director of the China National Space Administration International Satellite Data and Application Cooperation Center; Professor Michael Goodchild, Member of the US National Academy of Sciences. Almost 500 guests and experts from 18 countries and regions, including the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific, Harvard University, Tsinghua University, Peking University, Wuhan University, the Aerospace Information Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and the Innovation Academy for Microsatellites of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, were also present at the event.
CUHK also hosted the 2nd Youth Innovation Forum on Digital Earth on its campus from 4 to 7 December. This event was guided by the China Association of Young Scientists and Technologists, and the World Association of Young Scientists, in collaboration with the International Society for Digital Earth, and the International Research Center of Big Data for Sustainable Development Goals. It was jointly supported by the Young Scientists Innovation Network of the International Society for Digital Earth, ISEIS of CUHK, and the Hong Kong Young Scientist Association. The Forum focused on the digital technological innovation driving sustainable development, gathering researchers, scholars, and students from around the world in the field of digital earth and sustainable development for academic exchange.
