CUHK Holds GHMUA Annual Working Group Meeting
The annual working group meeting of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Universities Alliance (GHMUA) was held on 11 March at The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). The meeting reviewed and discussed cooperation plans in various fields. Professor Chan Wai Yee, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of CUHK, attended on behalf of CUHK and delivered opening remarks for the meeting.
The annual meeting provided an opportunity for representatives from each member institution responsible for alliance affairs to communicate, propose new projects, and share opinions on alliance development in the coming year. Such development ideas were summarized, and comprehensive discussions were held for future planning.
GHMUA was established in November 2016. It was initiated by CUHK together with SYSU and UM as a higher education platform to extend the current efforts of leading universities in the three regions to pursue research excellence, nurture young talent, and serve their communities. Members of the Alliance include 27 universities from Guangdong Province, nine universities from Hong Kong, as well as seven institutions from Macao. As one of the initiating universities, CUHK has been playing a key role in mobilizing resources across the Alliance to propel innovation development and talent nurturing in the Greater Bay Area.
CUHK Joins International Marine Science and Technology Alliance
On 21 April 2024, the Meeting for Global Ocean Institute Leaders was held in Hong Kong. Vice Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, Mr. Leung Chun-Ying; Chief Secretary for Administration of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Mr. Chan Kwok-Ki delivered opening remarks at the meeting. Professor Chan Wai Yee, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), attended the meeting and joined the launching ceremony of the International Marine Science and Technology Alliance as one of the member universities on behalf of CUHK.
This alliance was initiated by Laoshan Laboratory, to gather marine science and technology resources, higher education institutions, and marine-related organizations and workers all over the world, toward a global innovation collaboration network for marine science and technology. It promotes the sharing of scientific and technological resources, marine science and technology innovation through international interaction and cooperation, and provides scientific support for building a marine community with a shared future.
