New Cornerstone Investigator Program
The “New Cornerstone Investigator Program” was launched on 30th April 2022 with the goal of invigorating research into basic sciences. The non-profit program aims to provide long-term support to a group of outstanding scientists who focus on fundamental research projects that are of profound importance to humankind. It is an independent program, led by scientists with funding from Tencent. The company has pledged to provide RMB 10 billion to the program over 10 years while explore the feasibility of a long-term sustainable fund.
Focusing on 1) Mathematics and Physical Sciences, and 2) Biological and Biomedical Sciences, the Program encourages interdisciplinary research with the hope to facilitate scientists to discover new phenomena, achieve scientific breakthroughs, and create new fields. Further details on application requirements and procedures will be announced by the Program in due course.
CUHK Receives Medical Masks Donated by Mainland Enterprise
To support Hong Kong in fighting against COVID-19, Wanxinda (Guangzhou) Technology Product Co., Ltd. donated millions of medical masks to eight universities in Hong Kong through the Hong Kong Mainland Students Association. The donation ceremony was held online on 6 May 2022. Guests attended the ceremony included Mr. Jiang Jian-Xiang, Director of Science and Technology Department, Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Hong Kong SAR; Mr. Chen Ri-Ling, Chairman of Wanxinda (Guangzhou) Technology Product Co., Ltd.; together with representatives of universities in Hong Kong. Prof. Ko Wing-Hung, Acting University Dean of Students of CUHK, participated in the event and delivered a speech on behalf of CUHK. Participants expressed heartfelt appreciation to the generous donation and indicated continued efforts to safeguard the health and safety of university members.
CUHK Shenzhen Research Institute Organizes Launching Ceremony of 14th
China (Shenzhen) Innovation & Entrepreneurship Preliminary Competition for Universities
Shenzhen Research Institute of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) organized the launching ceremony of 14th China (Shenzhen) Innovation & Entrepreneurship Preliminary Competition for universities in Shenzhen, Hong Kong and Macau cum 4th Shenzhen Virtual University Innovation & Entrepreneurship Competition on 12 May. The launching ceremony was held in online-offline mixed mode.
At the launching ceremony, Prof. Chan Wai Yee, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Strategic Development) of CUHK, mentioned that CUHK would give its full efforts to remove obstacles between research, innovations and industries, in order to create a barrier-free system to facilitate the knowledge transfer of research outputs from local to global platforms.
CUHK Shenzhen Research Institute invited The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Hong Kong Cyberport, Bank of China, and China Resources Research Institute of Science and Technology to introduce more innovative resources for the competition projects including technology guidance, cross-border incubation, technology financial services, and industrial needs.
