NSFC Visits CUHK
Director Dou Xiankang, President of the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), led a delegation to visit The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) on 7 November. Delegation members included Ms. Wang Yan, Director General of the Bureau of Planning and Policy; Ms. Wang Kun, Director General of the Bureau of Finance; Mr. Yang Feng, Secretary of the Commission for Discipline Inspection; Mr. Zhang Yongtao and Ms. Zhang Lin, Director General and Deputy Director of the International Cooperation Bureau and the Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan Affairs Office. A meeting was held between the delegation and Professor Rocky S. Tuan, the then Vice-Chancellor and President of CUHK; Professor Sham Mai-Har, CUHK Pro-Vice-Chancellor; Professor Song Chunshan, Dean of Faculty of Science; Professor Jiang Li-Wen, Associate Dean of the Faculty of Science; and Professor Yu Jun, Assistant Dean of Faculty of Medicine to gain a deeper understanding of the latest research developments in Hong Kong and research activities with the Chinese Mainland.
Director Dou also engaged in an interflow session with young scholars at CUHK, including awardees of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars. The participating scholars reported progress on their research work and projects to Director Dou who provided feedback and encouragement. Through the meetings, the delegation obtained more information about CUHK and enhanced links for further collaboration.
President of Beijing Foreign Studies University Visits CUHK
On 25 November, Professor Jia Wenjian, President of Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU), led a delegation to visit The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). President Jia met with Professor Alan Chan, the then Provost of CUHK, and Professor Zhou Lin, Dean of the Faculty of Business Administration. The meeting also included Professor Du Julan, Director of the Shanghai-Hong Kong Development Institute, Dr. Victor Zheng, Associate Director of the Hong Kong Institute of Asia-Pacific Studies, and Ms. Wing Wong, Director of China Engagement.
At the meeting, both sides exchanged views on the overall cooperation at the university level as well as embarking on research projects under the related research institutes. The visit enhanced mutual understanding and established closer links between the two universities.
Visit of President Zheng Qinghua of Tongji University


President Zheng Qinghua of Tongji University led a delegation to visit The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) on 27 November. During the visit, President Zheng met with Professor Alan Chan, the then Provost of CUHK. Together they witnessed the start of a partnership between colleges of both universities. Professor Kwan Mei-Po, Head of Chung Chi College of CUHK, and Professor Yin Xuefeng, Executive Dean of Tongji University Guohao College signed a collaboration agreement on behalf of the Colleges. Following the meeting, the delegation toured the campus and the CUHK Gallery and visited the Nethersole School of Nursing, where they explored the Clinical Learning & Simulation Centre.
CUHK and Tongji University have established academic partnerships since 2012 and collaborated at various levels in student interflow and research projects. The visit indicated the continuous efforts to foster collaboration between the two universities.
Director of the Ministry of Science and Technology Supervisory Division Leads Delegation to Visit CUHK
On 28 November, Mr. Dai Guoqing, Director-General of the Department of Supervision and Scientific Integrity of the Ministry of Science and Technology, led a delegation to visit The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). Professor Sham Mai-har, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of CUHK, met with the delegation and was accompanied by CUHK representatives including Professor Wong Chun-man, Associate Vice-President; Professor Jimmy Lee, Director of the University Planning Office; Professor Szeto Cheuk Chun, Associate Dean (Academic) of Graduate School; Ms. Wing Wong, Director of China Engagement. The meeting engaged in discussions to understand the latest developments in CUHK’s research and shared views on topics such as the construction and management of research integrity.
Vice President of Tsinghua University Visits CUHK
Professor Yang Bin, Vice President of Tsinghua University, visited The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) on 4 December to meet with Professor Isabella Poon, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of CUHK. The meeting was joined by Professor Song Zheng, Chair of the Department of Economics; Professor Ronald Lui, Deputy Chair of the Department of Mathematics; Professor Shi Kang from the Department of Economics; and Professor Feng Dejun from the Department of Mathematics. During the meeting, the Memorandum of Understanding on dual degree programmes between Tsinghua University and CUHK was renewed.
Since the first academic exchange agreement between the two universities was signed in 1985, the ties and exchanges between CUHK and Tsinghua have been continuously strengthened, ranging from teaching, research to student affairs and executive exchanges.
Chinese Service Center for Scholarly Exchange Visits CUHK


On December 10, Mr. Wang Daquan, Director of the Chinese Service Centre for Scholarly Exchange led a delegation to visit The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). They met with Professor Rocky S. Tuan, the then President and Vice-Chancellor of CUHK, along with other senior members including Professor Isabella Poon, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of CUHK; Ms. Kitty Yu, Registrar; and Professor Anthony So, Dean of the Graduate School.
Professor Tuan welcomed Director Wang and his delegation, expressing gratitude for the constant support from the Center in education development and academic exchange. The two parties had active discussions and devised plans for further collaboration. A Memorandum of Understanding was concluded at the meeting to enhance partnership development.
Visit of the President of China University of Political Science and Law
A delegation led by Professor Ma Huaide, President of China University of Political Science and Law, visited The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) on 10 December. Professor Sham Mai-har, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of CUHK, attended the meeting to have academic exchange with President Ma and the delegates. Meetings were also held with representatives from the CUHK Faculty of Law, including Dean Professor Xi Chao, Associate Dean Professor Queenie Lai, and Assistant Dean (Undergraduate Studies) Professor Miao Miao. Participating sides discussed on topics covering future collaboration directions, identified research areas, and strengthening cooperation in talent nurturing.
Beijing Municipal Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference Delegation Visits CUHK
On December 12, the Beijing Municipal Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) delegation visited The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). The 8-member delegation was led by Mr. Cui Shuqiang, Vice Chairman of the Beijing CPPCC. The delegates were received by Vice-Chancellor and President Designate Professor Dennis Lo and Ms. Wing Wong, Director of the China Engagement. During the meeting, Professor Lo provided the delegation with a comprehensive overview of CUHK’s key developmental milestones in Beijing. Discussion was held on collaboration opportunities concerning talent nurturing, research, and knowledge transfer at the meeting. The visit further nurtured friendship and enhanced ties, which paved the way for collaboration development.
