Shenzhen University of Advanced Technology Visits CUHK
On 23 September, a delegation led by Professor Fan Jianping, President of Shenzhen University of Advanced Technology, visited The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). The delegates met with Acting Vice-Chancellor Professor Alan K.L. Chan to discuss collaboration plans in research and education. CUHK representatives attending the meeting included Professor Chan Wai-yee, Pro-Vice-Chancellor; Professor Song Chunshan, Dean of Science; Professor Xu Jianbin, Associate Dean (Mainland Affairs) of Engineering; Professor Yu Jun, Assistant Dean (Mainland Affairs) of Medicine; Professor Pan Jialin from the Department of Computer Science and Engineering; and Professor Sung Wing Kin from the Department of Chemical Pathology.
Delegation of Jinan Municipal Government Visits CUHK
On 15 October, Mr. Lei Jie, Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) under the Jinan Municipal Government Committee, led a delegation from the Jinan Municipal People’s Government to visit The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). Professor Chan Wai-yee, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of CUHK met with the delegates and introduced the latest developments in CUHK’s strategic initiatives. Mr. Lei was impressed by the achievements of the University and the developments of research laboratories at CUHK. He encouraged CUHK to strengthen its collaboration with universities and research institutes in Shandong to make a joint contribution to the development of the region and China as a whole.
Zhejiang Laboratory Visits CUHK
On 19 September, Mr. Yuan Jixin, Deputy Director of the Zhejiang Laboratory, led a delegation to visit The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). Meetings were held with Professor Chan Wai-yee, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of CUHK, along with CUHK representatives including Professor Xu Jianbin, Associate Dean (Mainland Affairs) of the Faculty of Engineering; Professor Kwan Mei-po, Choh-Ming Li Professor of Geography and Resource Management, and Director of Institute of Space and Earth Information Science; and Professors from the Departments of Computer Science and Engineering, Mechanical and Automation Engineering; Information Engineering; and Systems Engineering and Engineering Management. Both parties engaged in discussions covering further directions, specified research areas to enhance linkages, and talent-nurturing plans with collaboration plans to be devised.
Delegation of Ministry of Science and Technology Visits CUHK
On 30 October, Chen Hong-sheng, Deputy Director of the Department of Research Commercialization and Regional Innovation, Ministry of Science and Technology, led a delegation to visit The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). The delegates met with Professor Sham Mai-Har, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of CUHK to learn about the recent developments in research and knowledge transfer of CUHK. Professor Sham was accompanied by CUHK representatives including Professor Xu Jianbin, Associate Dean (Mainland Affairs) of the Faculty of Engineering; Professor Benny Zee, Director of the Office of Research and Knowledge Transfer Services; and Ms. Wong Wing, Director of China Engagement. Discussions were held regarding the innovation and technology plans for the University’s research initiatives.
Visit of the China Pharmaceutical University
On 23 October, Jin Nengming, Party Secretary of China Pharmaceutical University, led a delegation to visit The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). A meeting was held with Professor Chan Wai-yee, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of CUHK, and other representatives including Professor You Hoi Sze Joyce, Assistant Dean (Student Affairs) of the Faculty of Medicine and Director of the School of Pharmacy; Professors Leung Shui Yee Sharon and Yan Xiaoyu of School of Pharmacy and Ms. Wong Wing, Director of China Engagement. Both parties engaged in discussions and explored potential future collaborations. The delegation next visited CUHK Chinese Medicine Specialty Clinic cum Clinical Teaching and Research Center to understand its research and operations. The visit enabled a better understanding between China Pharmaceutical University and CUHK and provided a good opportunity to build links.
ASEIX of CUHK Receives Delegation from the Beijing Institute of Aerospace Test Technology
On 15 August, the Aerospace Science and Earth Informatics & X Double Major Programme (ASEIX) at The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) received a delegation from the Beijing Institute of Aerospace Test Technology (101 Institute) of the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation (CASC). The visit aimed to explore potential collaboration opportunities between the two parties.
Professor Kwan Kin Ming, Associate Dean of the Faculty of Science, warmly welcomed the delegation on behalf of the faculty. Professor Yang Hongfeng, ASEIX Programme Director, introduced the programme and related information about the participating departments and faculties at CUHK and CUHK Shenzhen.
Mr Wang Chenggang, Director of the 101 Institute, gave an introduction to the institute’s history and strengths, highlighting its significant contributions to China’s aerospace industry. Discussions were held on future collaboration opportunities, including student internships and field visits.
The ASEIX programme is an interdisciplinary undergraduate programme that combines aerospace science and earth information studies. It equips students with the skills to utilize information effectively to create innovative solutions, explore outer space, and protect the Earth. The programme covers scientific exploration, technology development, and application to study the Earth’s atmosphere and beyond. It integrates earth science knowledge with geospatial data science skills to understand and monitor environmental changes. Students will attend classes and participate in research and experiential activities at both the Hong Kong and Shenzhen campuses, gaining a broad range of interdisciplinary knowledge and skills.
The 101 Institute is renowned for its cutting-edge research and development in aerospace technology. It plays a crucial role in China’s space exploration efforts, with expertise in high-altitude simulation and rocket engine testing. The institute has contributed to major national projects such as heavy-lift rockets and lunar missions.
