CUHK President Joins the Mainland-Hong Kong-Macao University Presidents Roundtable
The Chinese Mainland-Hong Kong-Macao University Presidents Roundtable was held in Hong Kong on 12 August. Minister of Education Mr. Huai Jinpeng delivered a keynote speech on Mainland–Hong Kong–Macao cooperation to build a leading country in education. Professor Dennis Lo, Vice-Chancellor and President of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), attended the roundtable to give a presentation on Building World-Class Universities through Interdisciplinary Collaboration. He exchanged views with government officials and participating presidents at the meeting.
The Alliance of Open Life Science was officially inaugurated in Hong Kong on the day, jointly initiated by 15 leading universities and research institutions from mainland China, Hong Kong, and Macao. Professor Lo joined the launching ceremony of the Alliance as one of the founding member universities on behalf of CUHK. The founding members include 9 top mainland universities, including Peking University, Tsinghua University, Zhejiang University, Fudan University, and Shanghai Jiao Tong University, alongside six universities from Hong Kong and Macao, including the University of Hong Kong, CUHK, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, and the University of Macau. The Alliance aims to foster innovation in life sciences by integrating scientific research with industrial development. It seeks to build a globally collaborative innovation network and a hub for nurturing top-tier talent. By pooling educational, research, and human resources, it will promote international cooperation to address global challenges such as public health, food security, and climate change.
Shanghai Jiao Tong University Visits CUHK and Joins the Partnership Development Meeting
A delegation led by Professor Ding Kuiling, President of Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU), visited The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) on 11 August. The sixth meeting of the CUHK–SJTU Partnership Development Committee was held during the visit. Professor Dennis Lo, Vice-Chancellor and President of CUHK, co-chaired the meeting with Prof. Ding. Participants reported progress on joint projects in digestive disease, medical robotics, and diabetes, as well as collaborative degree programmes in FinTech, followed by in-depth discussions. The meeting concluded with the signing of the Partnership Development Committee agreement.
Professor Lo indicated at the meeting that the bilateral collaboration has been deepened and joint projects are becoming more diversified. He is looking forward to in-depth cooperation between the two universities, especially in the areas of major national projects. President Prof. Ding pointed out that both universities have a profound history of cooperation that has set a solid foundation for further expansion.
CUHK and SJTU have carried out a wide range of collaborative projects. This meeting enhanced the connection and communication, aspiring to expand new collaborative areas as well as to build a closer platform for partnership development.
