The Peking University Health Science Center, National Yang Ming University and Faculty of Medicine, The Chinese University established the Medical Education Association for China Mainland, Taiwan and Hong Kong Region in 1996. Subsequent to the first symposium held in the Three Gorges, the symposium is held every year until now. The Association was registered as legal association in September the next year. The Chinese University of Hong Kong serves as the Secretariat.
An academic member from Peking University, National Yang Ming University and The Chinese University of Hong Kong serves as member of the Bureau. There are now 41 member institutes. Under the annual symposium, members share views on the controversial medical topics, strengthening ties among institutes.
