CUHK Acting Provost Attends the Meeting of the Association of University Presidents of China (AUPC) and the Forum on Building World-class Universities
The 2024 Forum on Building World-class Universities and the Annual Meeting of the Association of University Presidents of China (AUPC) were held on 10 January 2025. Professor Isabella Poon Wai-yin, Acting Provost of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), attended the event on behalf of the University and delivered a talk. Member universities jointly issued the “AUPC Harbin Declaration”, indicating commitments to talent cultivation, technological self-reliance, international collaboration, and national prosperity.
The annual roundtable meeting was held. Heads of the 12 participating universities contributed to the Forum, with themes concerning the mission and role of the first-class university in building a strong nation through education. Professor Poon delivered a presentation regarding the challenges and responsibilities of universities, citing the efforts and achievements made by CUHK. She expressed that the University would continue to collaborate with AUPC members in energizing and empowering the strategic development of our country in education guided by national needs to nurture innovative talents.
AUPC was founded in 1997, comprising member institutions including CUHK, plus the nine universities that were first recognized under the national government’s Project 985 higher education development scheme, also known as the C9 universities, as well as The University of Hong Kong, and The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. The Association aims to dedicate its expertise and coordinate resources to develop higher education in China. (including, in alphabetical order), Fudan University, Harbin Institute of Technology, The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Nanjing University, Peking University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, The University of Hong Kong, Tsinghua University, The University of Science and Technology of China, Xi’an Jiaotong University and Zhejiang University.
