Inauguration Ceremony for Preparatory Class of Zhizhen School of Interdisciplinary Mathematical Sciences
On April 24, 2025, The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) held the Inauguration Ceremony for the preparatory class of Zhizhen School of Interdisciplinary Mathematical Sciences (the School) in the Virtual Reality Space. The ceremony was officiated by Professor Shing-Tung Yau, Founding Director of the School and internationally renowned mathematician, and Professor Poon Wai-yin, Provost of CUHK.
Professor Poon delivered an opening address, extending heartfelt congratulations on the opening of the preparatory class and emphasizing the significance of interdisciplinary mathematical sciences in modern education. Professor Yau, in his remarks, shared the vision and mission of the School, encouraging students to explore the unlimited possibilities in mathematical sciences. Professor CHUNG Tsz Shun, Deputy Director of the School, provided a comprehensive introduction on the curriculum, faculty strengths, and future development plans. The inauguration ceremony marked the official launch of the preparatory class of the School.
The School was established on 6 February and founded by CUHK. It will build a robust education platform on mathematical sciences, thereby cultivating leaders in the field for our country and Hong Kong. It offers an eight-year Bachelor-PhD programme, to drive innovative research in mathematical sciences and its applications, as well as contribute to the global development of mathematical sciences. The inaugural cohort of students is set to enroll in September 2025.
