CUHK Hosts GBA Education Policy Forum to Focus on Career Readiness
The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) hosted the third Greater Bay Area (GBA) Education Policy Forum on 6 June 2025. With the theme of student preparedness in an evolving educational landscape, the Forum was organized by the Research Consortium for Education Policy and Development in the GBA under the Hong Kong Institute of Educational Research (HKIER) of CUHK with support from the Tin Ka Ping Foundation.
The event attracted a diverse and engaged audience from the Chinese Mainland, Hong Kong, Macao, Australia, and the United States. Participants included scholars, educators, public sector leaders, social entrepreneurs, and representatives from nonprofit organizations, all contributing to a dynamic exchange of ideas on education policy and practice as well as critical issues surrounding student transitions and readiness for college and careers.
In his opening remarks, Professor Xitao Fan, Dean of Education of CUHK, reaffirmed the University’s commitment to advancing regional education research and fostering meaningful policy dialogue, specifically in the Greater Bay Area. Forum Scientific Co-Chair Professor Kenneth K. Wong of Brown University noted that the event, now in its third year, had steadily grown in impact and become an important platform linking policy dialogue with practical engagement. Professor Ou Dongshu, Associate Director of HKIER and Scientific Co-Chair of the forum, remarked that student career planning had become a central concern for both educators and policymakers.
The Forum featured three academic panels addressing key topics, including STEM equity, social-emotional development, access to higher education, curriculum reform, digital learning, and labour market transitions. A concluding roundtable facilitated cross-sector and cross-regional dialogue, reinforcing the Forum’s role as a catalyst for collaborative innovation. The event received wide positive feedback and enhanced CUHK’s position as a regional leading hub for impactful education policy exchange.
