A delegation comprising senior officials of the State Ministry of Education, led by the Minister of Education, Mr Huai Jinpeng, visited The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) on 13 August. The delegates were greeted by Professor John Y. Chai, Chairman of the CUHK Council, Professor Dennis Lo, Vice Chancellor and President of CUHK, and university officers for an in-depth exchange. Minister Huai attended the Hong Kong and Macao Regional Competition of the China International University Students’ Innovation Contest during the visit.
Minister Huai highly commended CUHK’s achievements and international influence in higher education and cutting-edge research. He stated: “CUHK is a university of quality where one would like to stay longer. It has made significant achievements in promoting educational development, technological innovation, talent cultivation, and social services. I look forward to the University leveraging its advantages as an international leader, innovator, and hub for talent to actively integrate into the major developments of the Greater Bay Area and national modernisation efforts, contributing core strength to the national strategy of building China into a leading country in education.”
Professor Chai said: ‘We will fully leverage our strengths to actively align with the upcoming National 15th Five-Year Plan and the master plan on building China into a leading country in education, serving as a bridge connecting the nation with the world.’
Professor Lo briefed the delegation on CUHK’s development overview, including various initiatives in response to the national strategy. He expressed gratitude for the continuous support from the country and Hong Kong Special Administrative Region governments, emphasizing that CUHK will serve the development of the nation and Hong Kong in areas such as cultivating high-quality talent, scientific research and innovation, promoting industry-academia-research integration, deepening cooperation with the mainland, and globally attracting talent.
Minister Huai and the delegation attended the Hong Kong and Macao Regional Competition of the China International University Students’ Innovation Contest after the meeting. He encouraged young students from Hong Kong and Macao to utilise their knowledge and innovation to serve national strategies and social development, urging them to break through the boundaries of conventional thinking, dare to innovate and strive for excellence, uphold the spirit of science to explore and practice, focus on cultivating comprehensive knowledge and interdisciplinary skills, and continuously enhance their innovative capabilities through practical experience.
Mr. John Lee, the Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, also attended the event at CUHK to officiate the competition. He expressed his hope that the participating students would make good use of the experience to deepen research endeavours, engage in science and technology enterprise practices, and build collaborative networks.
This year, the competition officially established a Hong Kong and Macao regional round, attracting 244 projects from 21 universities in Hong Kong and 171 projects from 6 universities in Macao. The regional competition was held at CUHK from 12 to 13 August. CUHK’s ‘Nano-pore Bio-single Molecule Detection Platform’ project won first place in the Life Sciences category, while the ‘Fc-Engineered CD9 Antibody for Leukaemia Treatment’ project secured first place in the Smart Medicine category.
This visit not only strengthened the close ties between the Ministry of Education and CUHK but also laid a more solid foundation for cooperation between mainland China and Hong Kong in education, science and technology, and youth development. CUHK will continue to work with collaborative partners to foster the cultivation of outstanding innovative talents and promote high-quality development in higher education, thereby injecting strong momentum into the prosperity and progress of the nation and the region.

Professor Chen Jie, Party Secretary of Harbin Institute of Technology and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, led a delegation to visit The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) on 4 August. A meeting was held with Professor Dennis Lo, Vice-Chancellor and President of CUHK, Professor Isabella Poon, Provost of CUHK, and Professor Tsang Hon-Ki, Dean of Engineering, to discuss collaboration opportunities.
Professor Lo and Professor Chen exchanged views on extending current efforts. A collaboration agreement on academic exchange was signed, and new plans were explored in student interflow and summer programmes. This visit marked a new phase of collaboration in engineering and talent development, laying a solid foundation for further exchanges.

On 1 August 2025, Chief Engineer Dr Li Guoping of the China National Space Administration (CNSA) led a delegation to The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) for academic exchange, aimed at fostering collaboration and dialogue in the fields of space technology and talent development.
CUHK representatives, including Provost Professor Isabella Poon, Associate Vice-President (Knowledge Transfer) Professor Allen Chan, Director of the Institute of Space and Earth Information Science Professor Kwan Mei-po, and other relevant faculty members, welcomed the delegation and engaged in fruitful discussions to devise collaboration plans. Both sides put forward ideas on research projects and expressed a shared commitment to advancing talent cultivation in the field of space technology. The delegates next toured the Institute of Space and Earth Information Science to gain deeper insights into CUHK’s research applications and achievements in related disciplines.
