Vice Governor of Shandong Province Visits CUHK
Vice Governor Chen Ping of the Shandong Provincial Government led a delegation to visit The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) on 15 August. The visit aimed to understand CUHK’s latest developments in biomedical sciences, modernization of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), new drug research, and related knowledge transfer. Professor Rocky Tuan, Vice-Chancellor of CUHK, welcome the delegation, along with CUHK representatives including Professor Chan Wai-Yee, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Professor Leung Ping-Chung, Director, Centre for Clinical Trials on Chinese Medicine, Institute of Chinese Medicine, and Professor Andrew Chan, Director of the School of Biomedical Sciences.
Professor Chan Wai-Yee gave an overview of CUHK and introduced its innovative research in health and life sciences, as well as the exchange with Shandong Province. At the meeting witnessed by Professor Tuan and Vice Governor Chen, a Memorandum of Understanding between The Belt and Road Alliance for Traditional Chinese Medicine and Shandong University of Traditional Chinese Medicine was signed. The agreement will further strengthen the collaboration in TCM, jointly promoting the prosperity and development of the TCM industry in Shandong and Hong Kong. Professor Tuan expressed hope and confidence in leveraging the educational and scientific resources of the two regions to deepen exchanges and cooperation in various fields, to promote common development.
The Party Secretary of Southern Medical University Visits CUHK
On 6 August, Party Secretary Zhang Yurun of Southern Medical University led a delegation to visit The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). He met with Professor Rocky Tuan, Vice-Chancellor of CUHK, and exchanged ideas on training models for clinical medicine programmes and the cultivation approaches for medical students. CUHK representatives attending the meeting included Professor Patrick Yung, Associate Dean (Mainland Affairs), Faculty of Medicine, and Professor Li Zhong, Vice-Chancellor Assistant Professor of the Department of Biomedical Engineering. The delegates next toured the CUHK Medical Centre to understand more about the University’s experiences in medical talent cultivation and research collaboration.
Exchange Meeting on Space Science
On 13 August, Mr. Tian Yulong, former Chief Engineer of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and Strategic Advisor of the Asia-Pacific Space Cooperation Organization, met with Professor Rocky Tuan, Vice-Chancellor of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). Joining the meeting included Professor Deng Yulin, Academician of the International Academy of Astronautics and Professor of Beijing Institute of Technology; Mr. Xu Yansong, Director of the Education and Training Department of the Asia-Pacific Space Cooperation Organization; and Ms. Zhang Yaxi, Director of the Key Laboratory of Biomedical Component Separation and Analysis at Beijing Institute of Technology. CUHK was represented by Professor Poon Wai-yin, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Education), and Ms. Wing Wong, Director of China Engagement.
The participants exchanged insights on new trends in aerospace development and discussed the crucial role of higher education institutions in cultivating talent in this field. The meeting provided a valuable platform for sharing perspectives, envisioning future collaboration, and enhancing linkages in aerospace research and education among all parties involved.
Vice President of Jinan University Visits CUHK
On 9 July, a delegation of administrative staff led by Professor Zhang Ronghua, Vice President of Jinan University, visited The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). During the visit, they met with Professor Alan K.L. Chan, Provost of CUHK, as well as representatives from the Human Resources and Finance Office to share experience on topics such as personnel and financial management.
Jinan University and CUHK have established partnerships in a range of areas including a Ministry of Education Joint Laboratory. Both universities are members of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau University Alliance, working together to serve the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area.
Beijing University of Chinese Medicine Visits CUHK
Ms. Wang Yaoqi, Secretary of the Party Committee of Beijing University of Chinese Medicine (BUCM), led a delegation to visit The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) on 16 July 2024. She met with Professor Chan Wai-yee, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of CUHK, and Professor Lin Zhixiu, Director of the School of Chinese Medicine for academic exchange.
The discussion focused on collaboration in cultivating talents and enhancing exchanges in Chinese Medicine, exploring potential partnerships in attracting overseas talent and high-quality educational resources. Following the meeting, the delegation toured the CUHK Chinese Medicine Specialty Clinic cum Clinical Teaching and Research Center to learn about its operations in outpatient services, education and research.
Beijing Institute of Technology Visits CUHK
Professor Zou Meishuai, Vice-President of Beijing Institute of Technology (BIT), and Professor Deng Yulin, Academician of the International Academy of Astronautics, led a delegation of BIT to visit The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) on 12 August. They met with Professor Poon Wai-yin, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of CUHK, and CUHK representatives including Professor Yang Hongfeng, Director of Aerospace Science and Earth Informatics Double Major Programme; Professor Ma Peifeng of the Department of Geography and Resource Management, and Ms. Wing Wong, Director of China Engagement. The discussion focused on talent cultivation and exchange initiatives, exploring a range of possible collaboration areas and plans.
Party Secretary of Guangdong Academy of Agricultural Sciences Visits CUHK
Professor Deng Yiqun, Party Secretary of the Guangdong Academy of Agricultural Sciences, led a delegation to visit The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) on 24 July 2024. The delegates had a meeting with Professor Lam Hon-ming, Director of the State Key Laboratory of Agrobiotechnology (The Chinese University of Hong Kong) and related academic members. Both sides explored opportunities to jointly establish an international collaboration network in agricultural science and technology in the Greater Bay Area, as well as the potential for talent exchanges for short-term skill training and interflow programs.
This visit enhanced the linkage between CUHK and the Guangdong Academy of Agricultural Sciences to deepen cooperation in agricultural science and technology innovation, leveraging their respective strengths to drive the development of related research in the Greater Bay Area.
Visit of the University of Science and Technology of China


Professor Deng Jiansong, Deputy Party Secretary of the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC), led a delegation to visit The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) on 24 July. They met with Ms. Wing Wong, Director of China Engagement, and discussed a range of interflow programmes to enhance exchanges in administrative management in higher education. The visit bolstered mutual understanding and further developed the relationship between the two universities.
