CUHK and Hainan Deepen Aerospace Collaboration in Strategic Satellite Data Partnership
On June 5, a delegation from the Hainan Provincial Government visited The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) to formalize a strategic partnership in advancing satellite data and Earth observation research. The delegation was led by Executive Vice Governor Mr. Bateer, which was welcomed by CUHK’s Provost, Professor Isabella Poon Wai-Yin. Both sides engaged in in-depth discussions on research collaboration, talent development, and platform building.
Professor Poon highlighted Hainan’s strategic role as a national aerospace hub and CUHK’s strengths in remote sensing satellite technology. CUHK’s Institute of Space and Earth Information Science (ISEIS) has been serving as the Hong Kong base of the National Remote Sensing Centre under the Ministry of Science and Technology. As the city’s only satellite ground receiving station, it provides critical support to China’s remote sensing industry.
During the meeting, the collaboration agreement was signed between the Hainan Satellite Data and Application Research Centre and ISEIS of CUHK. The partnership will bolster joint training of students and talent exchange, positioning Hong Kong as a global hub for aerospace talent.
Next, the delegation toured ISEIS to gain insights into the University’s latest research in Earth observation, spatial data analytics, and smart city development. This visit not only strengthened the research ties between CUHK and Hainan but also opened a new chapter in advancing national aerospace technology and fostering regional innovation collaboration.
