President of CUHK Leads Delegation to Visit the Shenzhen Institutes of Advanced Technology

Professor Dennis Lo Yuk-ming, CUHK’s Vice-Chancellor and President visits joint laboratories at SIAT
Professor Dennis Lo, Vice-Chancellor and President of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), led a delegation to the Shenzhen Institute of Advanced Technology (SIAT)of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) on 15 August. CUHK members joining the visit included Professor Allen Chan, Associate Vice-President (Knowledge Transfer); Professor Xu Jianbin, Associate Dean (Mainland Affairs) of Engineering, and Professor Qin Ling, Assistant Dean (Mainland Affairs) of Medicine. The visit aimed to deepen collaboration between CUHK and SIAT to accelerate knowledge transfer and innovation development.
The delegates received updates on the recent developments of SIAT in technology innovation, talent cultivation, and international collaboration. A discussion meeting was held with Professor Liu Chen-Li, Director of SIAT, and other senior members from relevant research institutes. Professor Lo and Professor Liu signed a Memorandum of Understanding on behalf of both parties during the meeting.
Visits were paid to the joint laboratories at SIAT, and next to the Engineering Biology Industry Innovation Centre in Guang Ming Science City and the adjacent Life Sciences Park, gaining insights into SIAT’s major infrastructure projects in synthetic biology and brain science. Professor Lo remarked that CUHK and SIAT have highly complementary strengths in basic research and technology transfer. The University will continue its diversified collaboration in talent cultivation and innovation development, partnering with SIAT to make greater contributions in the Greater Bay Area.
CUHK and CAS joined hands with the Shenzhen Municipal Government to establish SIAT in February 2006. It aims to enhance the innovative capacity of the equipment manufacturing and service industries in the Guangdong-Hong Kong region. SIAT is the first national research unit with the involvement of overseas institutions and the only national institute in Shenzhen.
CUHK Associate Vice-President Visits Beijing
Professor Allen Chan, Associate Vice-President (Knowledge Transfer) of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), visited Beijing on 22 July. He met with representatives from the Beijing Municipal Science and Technology Commission and the Zhongguancun Administrative Committee. During the meeting, Professor Chan presented CUHK’s recent achievements and developments across different disciplines. Discussions were held to promote academic exchange and explore future collaboration opportunities.
CUHK established the CUHK Beijing Centre in June 2023 and signed agreements with various parties to further development. The University will continue to integrate into the overall development of the country and strive to promote the cultivation of innovative talents and technological exchanges.
