President of CUHK Attends the Launching of Mainland-Hong Kong Collaborative Programme of the National Key Research and Development Project
On 17 July, Professor Rocky Tuan, Vice-Chancellor and President of the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) attended the launch meeting of the Mainland-Hong Kong Science and Technology Innovation Collaboration Programme under the National Key Research and Development Project – Screening of Molecular Biomarkers for Knee Osteoarthritis and Development of Regenerative Medicine. The meeting was held at Zhujiang Hospital during which Professor Tuan held discussions with Academician Hou Fanfan and Gao Tianming from the Chinese Academy of Sciences, as well as Professor Li Mengfeng, President of Southern Medical University, and Professor Guo Hongbo, Director of the Zhujiang Hospital.
Professor Tuan commended the remarkable achievements of the Guangdong team in the field of osteoarthritis research and stated that undertaking national key research projects is the key to facing national needs and leveraging the advantages of interdisciplinary research to contribute scientific and technological strength of the country. CUHK will continue to deepen its academic exchanges and cooperation in Guangdong to promote the development of osteoarthritis research. The CUHK delegation next visited the Clinical Research Center of the Zhujiang Hospital to learn more about the latest developments in related research.
CUHK President Leads Delegation to Visit Kunming

The Yunnan Provincial People's Government, The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), and The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen (CUHK Shenzhen) Sign Strategic Cooperation Agreement
Professor Rocky Tuan, Vice-Chancellor and President of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) led a high-level delegation to visit Kunming from 28 to 30 July. During the visit, together with representatives from CUHK-Shenzhen, CUHK signed a tripartite strategic cooperation agreement with Yunnan Provincial People’s Government to strengthen efforts in green energy, biomedicine, digital economy, innovative materials, big data, and artificial intelligence. The collaboration will promote the development of research platforms, the transfer of scientific and technological achievements, and the cultivation of talents.
According to the agreement, the Yunnan Provincial Government will support the research teams of the two campuses of CUHK in developing laboratories and technological innovation centers, strengthening cooperation in higher education, and entrepreneurship, and jointly building practice bases. The three parties will establish a communication mechanism and actively explore innovative cooperation models. The CUHK delegation met and exchanged views with representatives of the Yunnan Provincial Government including Mr. Wang Yubo, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Governor of Yunnan Province, Ms. Yang Yang, Vice Governor, Mr. Wang Xueqin, Director of the Department of Science and Technology, and Deputy Director of the Department of Education.
The delegation also visited the Kunming Institute of Zoology and Kunming Institute of Botany of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), to discuss collaboration plans. CUHK has a long history of collaborative research with the two institutes and both sides briefed each other on the latest developments and scientific research trends, as well as specific development plans. CUHK and CAS signed a cooperation agreement as early as the 1980s and have been collaborating on a wide range of projects. Professor Tuan stated that CUHK is actively strengthening exchanges with various institutes of CAS.
This visit is of great significance to CUHK to enhance multi-level exchanges with Yunnan Province, deepening collaboration in education and research, cultivating first-class talents, and promoting scientific and technological development. It also strengthened the linkages between CUHK and the institutes of CAS.
Pro-Vice-Chancellor of CUHK Leads Delegation to Visit Beijing
Professor Chan Wai-yee, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), led a delegation to Beijing from August 23-24, 2024. Apart from meeting with officials of the Beijing Municipal Government, Professor Chan attended the opening of the HICOOL 2024 Global Entrepreneurship Summit, the High-end Talent Highland Forum, and the launch of the Talent Sharing Program with CUHK innovation projects and teams.
CUHK established the Beijing Centre in June 2023 and signed agreements with various parties to discuss development. This visit is an important symbol of the relevant cooperation to integrate into the overall development of the country and strive to promote the cultivation of innovative talents, and scientific and technological exchanges.
