Visit of Science and Technology Committee of Beijing Municipal Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference Delegation


A delegation of the Science and Technology Committee of Beijing Municipal Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) visited The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) on 6 January 2025. The delegation was led by Mr. XU Qiang, Chairman of the Committee, and delegates were received by Professor Dennis Lo, Vice-Chancellor and President of CUHK, and Ms. Wing Wong, Director of China Engagement.
Professor Lo provided a comprehensive overview of CUHK’s key developmental milestones in Beijing during the meeting. Discussion was held on fostering linkages between Beijing and Hong Kong, specifically on the exchanges among young scientists. The visit nurtured friendship and enhanced ties for collaboration development.
Party Secretary of Nanjing University Visits CUHK
On 20 January, Professor Tan Tieniu, Party Secretary of Nanjing University (NJU) and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, led a delegation to visit The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). He held a meeting with CUHK Vice-Chancellor and President Professor Dennis Lo. CUHK representatives included Acting Provost Professor Isabella Poon Wai-yin, Associate Dean (Mainland Affairs) of Engineering Professor Xu Jian-bin, Associate Dean (Mainland Affairs) of Medicine Professor Yung Shu-hang Patrick, Director of the CUHK-NJU Joint Center for Scoliosis, Professor Lee Yuk-wai, and Director of China Engagement Ms. Wong Wing. They exchanged views on the joint training of students, faculty exchange, and future collaboration plans of the joint research center between CUHK and NJU.
CUHK and NJU have been in close partnership since 1994 in a wide range of collaborative projects including research collaboration and student exchange programmes. Both universities joined hands to build the joint scoliosis research center in 2006 to promote research development and talent nurturing as China’s first research unit in scoliosis.
Delegation of Zhejiang University Visits CUHK



A delegation led by Academician Huang Hefeng, Dean of Medicine of Zhejiang University visited The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) on 22 January. Delegates met with CUHK Vice-Chancellor and President Professor Dennis Lo. CUHK representatives joining the meeting included Professor Allen Chan, Associate Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Professor Jiang Pei-Yong of the Department of Chemical Pathology, and Ms. Wing Wong, Director of China Engagement. In-depth discussions were held on cooperation in medical education, clinical research, and the application of artificial intelligence in research. The visit aimed to strengthen collaboration and development in these areas.
The delegation also visited the Faculty of Medicine for academic exchange. Representatives attending the meeting included Professor Yung Shu-hang, Associate Dean, and Assistant Deans Professor Yu Jun and Professor Leung Tak-yang. Both parties learned more about the recent developments and discussed exploring collaboration opportunities.
Visit of President of Central South University


A delegation led by Professor Li Jiancheng, President of Central South University (CSU) and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering visited The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) on 25 February. A meeting was held with CUHK Vice-Chancellor and President Professor Dennis Lo, who was accompanied by Professor Ma Ching-Wan, Associate Dean (External Affairs) of Medicine, Professor Leung Tak-Yeung, Assistant Dean (Mainland Affairs) of Medicine, Professor Lui Lok-Ming, Deputy Chairman (Research) of the Department of Mathematics, and Ms. Wong Wing, Director of China Engagement. Collaboration plans were discussed covering research and student interflow.
The delegation visited the New Asia College after the meeting and learned about the college’s history and recent developments. The visit provided an opportunity for both sides to enhance communication for future collaborative development.
Delegation of Fudan University Visits CUHK and Signs Agreement on Medical Genetics


On 24 January, Professor Huang Taosheng, Dean of the Institute of Medical Genetics & Genomics of Fudan University, led a delegation to visit The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). During the visit, a collaboration agreement with the Hong Kong Hub of Pediatric Excellence (HK HOPE) of CUHK was concluded to expand international and regional exchanges in the field of medical genetics education and genetic counseling. CUHK representatives attending the signing ceremony included Pro-Vice-Chancellor Professor Chan Wai-Yee, Professor Li Man Chim Albert Martin, Director of HK HOPE; Professor Leung Tak-Yeung of HK HOPE, Professor Chong Shuk-ching, Chairperson of the Hong Kong Society of Medical Genetics; Professor Richard Choy of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and Professor GU Shen Linda of the School of Biomedical Sciences. The meeting exchanged ideas on collaboration plans about the agreement, aiming to promote academic exchange, researcher mobility, resource sharing, and training programs in medical genetics and genetic counseling, to foster talent nurturing.
Suzhou Government Delegation Visits CUHK
A delegation of Suzhou Municipal Government led by Mr. Liu Bo, Deputy Mayor visited The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) on 10 February. The delegates met with CUHK Pro-Vice-Chancellor Professor Chan Wai-Yee, Professor Benny Zee, Director of the Office of Research and Knowledge Transfer Services, and Ms. Wong Wing, Director of China Engagement. Both sides shared views on fostering linkages for the development of the two regions. The delegation next visited CUHK T Stone Robotics Institute and met with its Director, Professor Liu Yun-hui, and his team to strengthen the ties in the fields of technological innovation and research.
Vice-President of Southeast University Visits CUHK
On 19 February, Professor Sun Litao, Vice-President of Southeast University, led a delegation to visit The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). He met with CUHK Pro-Vice-Chancellor Professor Chan Wai-Yee. CUHK participants joining the meeting included Professor Xu Jian-Bin, Associate Dean (Mainland Affairs) of the Engineering, Professor Young Fung-Yu, Chairman of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, and Professor Shu Ching-Tak, Head of the Department of Electronic Engineering. Both parties engaged in discussions and explored opportunities for talent cultivation and enhancing research collaboration.
The Delegation from Shanghai Pudong District Visits CUHK
A delegation from Shanghai Pudong District visited The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) on 25 February. The delegation was led by Mr. Wu Jincheng, Deputy Secretary-General of the Shanghai Municipal Government. He had a meeting with CUHK Pro-Vice-Chancellor Professor Chan Wai-Yee. CUHK representatives attending the meeting included Professor Zhou Lin, Dean of Business Administration, Ms. Wong Wing, Director of China Engagement, and Dr. Lau Victor,
Head of Venture Acceleration at the Office of Research and Knowledge Transfer Services. Professor Chan provided an overview of CUHK’s developments in Shanghai. The meeting held discussions on the exchange of young scholars and student interflow between Shanghai and Hong Kong and explored potential collaborations in innovation and entrepreneurship.
