CUHK and Education Bureau of HKSAR Visit Shanghai
A delegation comprising representatives of the Education Bureau of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) and The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) visited the CUHK Shanghai Centre, Shanghai Institute for Mathematics and Interdisciplinary Sciences (SIMIS), and met with Yangpu District Government on 30 January 2024.
Mr. Sze Chun Fai, Under Secretary for Education of the HKSAR, and Professor Isabella Poon Wai Yin, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of CUHK, paid a visit to CUHK Shanghai Centre and learned about its recent development. The delegates next had a meeting with SIMIS to discuss plans to enhance linkage in related fields.
A symposium was co-organized with Yangpu District Government with the participation of Mr. Zhou Haiying, Deputy Secretary of the Yangpu District Party Committee and District Mayor. Mr. Zhou remarked that Yangpu and Hong Kong have maintained close cooperation, especially since the establishment of the CUHK Shanghai Center, where significant progress has been made in their collaboration. Looking ahead, he hoped to see deep cooperation with the Education Bureau of the HKSAR and CUHK to serve national development and build the CUHK Shanghai Center as a benchmark for the university-government collaborative model.
Professor Poon stated that there was a solid foundation for collaboration between Hong Kong and Shanghai. CUHK and Yangpu will continue to leverage their complementary advantages in resources, enhancing industry-academia-research cooperation in areas such as basic sciences and the digital economy. CUHK will actively collaborate with universities in the Yangpu District to promote more comprehensive and in-depth cooperation in talent cultivation, academic exchange, student and faculty interflow, and technological innovation, contributing to national and regional development.
