CUHK Joins the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau University Alliance Annual Meeting cum Presidents Forum
Professor Rocky Tuan, Vice-Chancellor and President of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) participated in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau University Alliance (GHMUA) Annual Meeting and Presidents Forum 2022 held on 25 November with the theme “Implement the National Education Digitalization Strategy and Promote the Construction of High-Level Talents”. Government officials and leaders of the alliance member universities across Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao attended the event to exchange views, and jointly promote the advancement of the Alliance focusing on the national education digitalization strategy and development of high-level talent training.
As the Vice-Chairperson of the Alliance, Professor Tuan participated in the Alliance Board Meeting and chaired the first session of the Presidents’ Forum themed “Strengthen Alliance Synergies and Bolster High-Level Talent Training”. Professor Tuan said, “The demand for high-level talent is increasing day by day. GHMUA should play a more important role in this regard, so as to work together in building an advanced platform for talent nurturing in the Greater Bay Area more effectively.”
Initiated by CUHK, SYSU and the University of Macau, the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau University Alliance was established in November 2016 as a higher education platform that aspires to extend the current efforts of elite universities in promoting academic cooperation in the three regions. The partnership fosters collaboration in various areas including scientific research, student interflow, cultural and innovation exchange as well as policy study. There are now 41 alliance members including 25 universities from the Guangdong Province, 9 universities from Hong Kong, as well as 7 institutions from Macau.
CUHK Attends the Shanghai-Hong Kong University Alliance Research Degree Information Seminar
Professor Anthony So, Dean of the Graduate School of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) attended the Shanghai-Hong Kong University Alliance (SHUA) Research Degree Information Seminar, during 8-9 October online. He gave an overview of CUHK’s development, covering the introduction of Graduate School along with its admission policies. Questions were taken from participating students regarding application procedures and academic proposal planning. The session promoted the interflow of higher education between Shanghai and Hong Kong. It attracted a large number of participants with viewers on the live broadcast platform exceeding 34,000.
SHUA was founded in November 2018 by 16 universities in Shanghai and Hong Kong, with the aim of establishing a closer linkage among member universities, fostering talent nurturing and scientific research collaboration. CUHK has long been in close partnership with institutions in Shanghai in a broad range of areas including research collaboration, student interflow and exchange activities.
