CUHK and CUHK(Shenzhen) Collaborate in Double Major Programme
The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) made a submission this August to the government’s 2022 Policy Address via public consultation, proposing the launch of a new Greater Bay Area “2+2” degree programme, so students can have immersive educational experiences in the Greater Bay Area and contribute to the region’s talent pool. Following this proposal, CUHK and The Chinese University of Hong Kong (Shenzhen) (CUHK-Shenzhen) have jointly introduced a first-of-its-kind collaborative double major programme that will span both campuses. Students will pursue a programme in Interdisciplinary Data Analytics and another major from among specific academic disciplines offered by either CUHK or CUHK-Shenzhen. The dual-location programme will provide a cross-border learning experience as well as internship opportunities to students, which will be particularly advantageous for those who are interested in pursuing a career in the Greater Bay Area.
The new programme is expected to be launched in the 2023/24 academic year. During the four-year study period, students will enjoy flexibility in their choice of courses and spend two years on each campus for studies, research and field trips. A list of equivalent courses at CUHK and CUHK-Shenzhen is available to allow students to complete the required/elective courses and fulfill the graduation requirements of their home campus. A bachelor’s degree will be awarded two majors printed on the degree certificate by the respective university. In addition, CUHK students will also secure guaranteed admission to CUHK’s flagship Co-operative Education Programme, gaining full-time paid work experience and leveraging CUHK’s established industry network. CUHK and CUHK-Shenzhen signed a framework agreement in 2021 to leverage their respective strengths to work towards building a world-class university brand that is known nationally and around the world.
