CUHK Joins 2nd Standing Committee Meeting of Jiangsu-Hong Kong-Macau University Alliance
The Annual Standing Committee Meeting of the Jiangsu-Hong Kong-Macau University Alliance (JHMUA) was held on 5 December 2022. The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) joined the meeting with committee member institutions from Nanjing, Hong Kong and Macao. Participants reported their work in 2022 and discussed future work plans in the meeting.
During the meeting, the Standing Committee approved the admission of five new member institutions, namely Nanjing University of Posts and Telecommunications, Nanjing University of the Arts, Nanjing Medical University, Jiangsu Normal University, and Nanjing University of Science and Technology, to the Alliance. Two new sub-alliances were approved in Remote Sensing and Environmental, and Future Human Settlement Science and Design.
Initiated by Nanjing University in 2021, JHMUA aspires to promote exchanges in the fields of talent nurture, research collaboration, and preservation of cultural heritage among universities in Jiangsu Province, Hong Kong, and Macao, jointly promoting the prosperous development of the Yangtze River Delta Region and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. CUHK is a member of the first standing committee of JHMUA.
CUHK Attends the Annual Meeting of the Mainland-Hong Kong-Macau Law Education Alliance and the Alliance's Seminar
The Mainland-Hong Kong-Macau Law Education Alliance had its 4th Board Meeting cum Seminar held online on 26 November 2022. Professor Wolff Lutz-Christian, Dean of the Faculty of Law of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), gave a speech at the seminar on behalf of CUHK, Vice Chairman Institution of the Alliance.
Board members reviewed the achievements in 2022 and devised upcoming work plans at the board meeting. At the alliance seminar held after the meeting, participants exchanged views on topics relating to the cultivation of talents. Professor Wolff gave a presentation themed “Cultivating Legal Talents in the Greater Bay Area” at the seminar to his views on the challenges of legal talents as well as the significant role of law education.
CUHK has been the Vice-Chairman Institution of the Mainland-Hong Kong-Macau Law Education Alliance since its formation in 2017. With a strong connection with various international professional organizations and institutions, the CUHK Faculty of Law strives to bring together systems of common law and Chinese law with other legal traditions to promote justice and safeguard the rule of law. The Alliance aims to provide a cross-border platform for the profession of law education, with Tsinghua University, Peking University, Wuhan University, Renmin University of China, Fudan University, Sun Yat-sen University, China University of Political Science and Law, The University of Hong Kong and The University of Macau as member institutions.
CUHK Participates in Beijing-Hong Kong University Alliance Seminar
The Beijing-Hong Kong University Alliance (BHUA) organized an alliance seminar on 1 December 2022 themed “Join Hands to Build a High-level Talent Highland in Beijing and Hong Kong”. Representatives from member institutions shared their experience in nurturing talents to promote interaction and cooperation among alliance members.
Ms. Wing Wong, Director of China Engagement of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) gave a presentation entitled “Curriculum Collaboration and Student Exchanges in CUHK” to share the University’s work in cultivating talents, comprising curriculum collaboration and exchange projects. Special focus was given on the establishment and latest development of CUHK (Shenzhen).
Founded by CUHK and various local and Beijing universities in 2018, BHUA aims at establishing closer linkages and exchanges among member universities, strengthening talent nurturing and research collaboration, as well as enhancing the levels of higher education in the two regions. CUHK Attends the Executive Council Meeting of China-UK Humanities Alliance
The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) participated in the Executive Council Meeting of the China-UK Higher Education Humanities Alliance on 6 December 2022. The meeting summarized the achievements in the previous year, including the construction of the alliance network, admission of new member institutions, enhancement of academic publications, successful organization of the 6th Annual Academic Forum, the 2022 Executive Council Meeting, the 7th serial international forums “World Maps and World Culture”, and the 4th Young Talent Alliance Conference, along with other academic exchange activities among member institutions. Professor Wong Suk-Ying, Master of CW Chu College, and Professor Jeremy Yellen, Acting Director of the Research Institute for the Humanities; attended the executive committee meeting on behalf of CUHK to report on the collaboration initiatives among member universities. Professor Wong in the capacity of Deputy Director of the Executive Council and Director of the Publishing Committee gave a brief report on the alliance publications.
Initiated by Tsinghua University in 2016, the China-UK Humanities Alliance for Higher Education aims to increase and consolidate academic and cultural exchanges between Chinese and British universities by promoting cross-cultural dialogues and collaboration in the fields of humanities and humanitarian education. The formation of the Alliance serves as a multilateral platform for cross-cultural and cross-ethnic dialogues, cooperation in the field of humanities and to deepen exchanges between the universities in China and the UK. CUHK is one of the founding members and the only member from Hong Kong.
CUHK Joins Shanghai-Hong Kong University Alliance Annual Meeting cum Interdisciplinary Development and Innovation Forum
Professor Chan Wai-Yee, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) attended the Shanghai-Hong Kong University Alliance (SHUA) Annual Meeting cum Interdisciplinary Development and Innovation Forum on 21 December 2022. He reported on the Alliance’s work plan in the coming year on behalf of CUHK, the Vice Chair of the fourth Alliance Council.
Guests attending the activities included Dr Choi Yuk-Lin, Secretary for Education of the HKSAR Government; Mr Shu Gangbo, Deputy Director of Office of Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Affairs of Ministry of Education; Mr Liu Maozhou, Inspector II of Department of Education and Technology, Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the HKSAR; and Dr Li Yongzhi, Deputy Director of Shanghai Municipal Education Commission, as well as leaders and representatives of the 16 member institutions of SHUA.
Professor Chan said in his speech that Shanghai is a key area of strategic development in Mainland China in CUHK’s Strategic Plan 2021-25. CUHK has established a number of joint research units with Fudan University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and has set up the Interdisciplinary Artificial Intelligence Research Institute in collaboration with the Shanghai Artificial Intelligence Laboratory. CUHK Shanghai Centre was admitted in Yangpu District in 2022. CUHK is looking forward to more plans of cooperation between Shanghai and Hong Kong and to creation of an effective platform for coordinated development among the government, universities, and enterprises.
Founded by 8 universities in Shanghai and another 8 universities in Hong Kong in November 2018, SHUA is committed to establishing a closer linkage among member universities, fostering talent nurturing and scientific research collaboration. CUHK has long been in close partnership with universities and research institutions in Shanghai to promote exchanges in a broad range of areas including research collaboration, student interflow and exchange activities.
