CUHK Attends 16th Mainland/Hong Kong Science and Technology Cooperation Committee Meeting
Professor Sham Mai-har, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) attended the 16th Mainland/Hong Kong Science and Technology Cooperation Committee Meeting on behalf of CUHK. The Meeting was co-chaired by Professor Zhang Guangjun, Vice Minister of Science and Technology, and Professor Sun Dong, Secretary for Innovation, Technology and Industry of HKSAR. Representatives from Hong Kong and Mainland China joined the meeting to share the major progress and achievements in facilitating the flow of key elements of scientific research and promoting innovation and technology cooperation.
Professor Sham delivered a speech on the latest development of CUHK in research collaboration with the Chinese Mainland, including the recent achievements in the Greater Bay Area (GBA). She said: “Being the first university in the territory to establish a comprehensive presence in GBA for over 15 years, CUHK has successfully constructed a number of joint industry, academic and research bases. The University’s Strategic Plan “CUHK 2025” aims to participate in the country’s major development strategies, actively participating in the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area through establishing multiple joint industries, academic and research bases, and vigorously promoting research excellence and cultivating scientific research talents.”
The Mainland/Hong Kong Science and Technology Cooperation Committee holds annual meetings to share ideas and discuss issues of common concern. Mainland members attending the meeting included representatives from the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Council, the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the HKSAR, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and the China Association for Science and Technology.
CUHK and HUST Organize Research Seminar on Innovative Medicine
The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) jointly organized an online special seminar on innovative medicine with Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST) on 23 December 2022. Experts and scholars from Tongji Medicine and Health Management College of HUST and The Jockey Club School of Public Health and Primary Care (SPHPC) of CUHK participated in the Forum.
Professor Samuel Wong, Director of SPHPC of CUHK joined the seminar with SPHPC members including Professor Dong Dong, Professor Wang Kailu, Professor Wu Yushan, and Professor Zhang Dexing. The participants gave a keynote speech and various presentations, covering such topics as Hong Kong’s medical services, aging, elderly services, rare diseases, primary healthcare, and intervention for better health, and shared their research experience to explore collaboration opportunities.
The HUST-CUHK research seminar on innovative medicine is dedicated to deepening mutual communications and promoting discussion on research collaboration in health policies and management, as well as plans for nurturing talents. It further facilitated exchanges and cooperation in research and teaching between the two Schools.
CUHK Holds Online Collaboration Meeting with CUPL
The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) and China University of Political Science and Law (CUPL) held an online meeting on 11 January 2023 to discuss collaboration plans. Representatives from CUHK included Prof. Xi Chao, Associate Dean (Research) of the Faculty of Law, and Ms. Wing Wong, Director of China Engagement. Participants from CUPL were Professor Li Juqian and Mr. Wang Fuping, Director and Deputy Director of the Office of Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Affairs; and Professor Yao Guojian from the School of Law.
During the meeting, both parties discussed work progress in various fields of collaboration including joint programmes, thematic seminars, and academic publications. Representatives also proposed future plans for new collaboration projects with wider participation from both sides.
Since the establishment of partnership in 2009, both universities have been collaborating closely, particularly in the discipline of law. CUHK joined the Mainland-Hong Kong-Macau Law Education Alliance in June 2017 to enhance the linkage with mainland partners and took up the role as the founding Vice-Chairman Institution.
