CUHK Holds Shanghai Centre Design Competition Forum cum Award Presentation Ceremony
The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) Shanghai Centre Design Competition Forum cum Award Presentation Ceremony was held on 18 January 2023 in hybrid mode. The Competition was jointly organized by CUHK, Shanghai Yangpu Technology and Innovation Group (STI), Shanghai Penta Innovation and Entrepreneurship Institute (Penta Institute) and Shui On Land KIC with the purpose to identify a design proposal that can embody the characteristics of CUHK and integrate into regional development.
Officiating guests joining the opening included Professor Alan Chan, Provost of CUHK; Mr. Zheng Yuexiao, Chairman of the Board of STI, Ms. Yang Ling, Executive Director of Penta Institute and Ms. Wang Hong, Project Manager of KIC. Other attending guests of the University included Professor Chan Wai-Yee, Pro-Vice-Chancellor; Mr. Laurie Pearcey, Associate Vice-President; Professor Wong Suk-Ying, Master of CW Chu College; Professor Zhou Lin, Dean of Faculty of Business Administration; Professor Hsu Ning, Choh-Ming Li Professor of Decision Sciences and Managerial Economics; Professor Zhu Jingxiang and Professor Thomas Chung, from the School of Architecture; Ms. Wing Wong, Director of China Engagement; Mr. Raymond So, President of Shanghai Alumni Association and Mr. Remy Chan, President of Business School Alumni Association in Shanghai.
A total of five teams of designers received awards which were presented by Professor Alan Chan. The winning teams delivered reports and exchanged ideas on their design concepts with participants at the Forum. Professor Alan Chan said in his speech that the Competition has enhanced the impact of CUHK and expanded exchanges between Shanghai and Hong Kong. As the University’s major base in Shanghai, the Centre will help cultivate high-level versatile talents and facilitate the deeper integration among industry, academia, research, and application.
CUHK and Shanghai Yangpu District signed a collaboration framework agreement on 4 July 2022 to jointly establish the CUHK Shanghai Centre. Located in the Shanghai Penta Innovation and Entrepreneurship Institute in Yangpu District, the Centre will hold regular activities to deepen the collaborative relationship with mainland institutions and enterprises, support researchers and teams in engaging interdisciplinary research, promote academic programmes of various disciplines, and serve as a gathering place for alumni in Shanghai and Eastern China.
