Mr. Guo Wenhai, Secretary of the CPC Zhongshan Municipal Committee, led a delegation to visit The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) on 8 August to discuss collaboration plans. Delegates included representatives from the Zhongshan Municipal Committee Office, the Municipal Committee’s United Front Work Department, and the Science and Technology Bureau. Professor Rocky S. Tuan, Vice-Chancellor and President of CUHK, together with relevant representatives from the Faculty of Medicine and Innovation and Entrepreneurship offices, had extensive exchanges with the delegation on topics concerning expanding collaborations, promoting the transfer of scientific and technological achievements, and supporting innovative development. On 9 August, Zhongshan Municipal People’s Government and CUHK held an agreement signing ceremony. Witnessed by Secretary Guo and Professor Tuan, Professor Chan Wai-Yee, Prof-Vice-Chancellor of CUHK and Mr. Ouyang Jinquan, Vice Mayor of Zhongshan signed an agreement of collaboration framework on behalf of both parties, with CUHK as the first institution in Hong Kong concluded an agreement with Zhongshan Government to strengthen industry-academia-research collaborations.
According to the agreement, both parties will take advantage of the unique location and industrial strength of Zhongshan, and fully utilize CUHK’s capabilities in innovation and entrepreneurship, talent nurturing, research, and knowledge transfer to jointly build an innovation platform, assisting in the high-quality development in the Greater Bay Area and actively promoting the flow of talents and resources. Professor Tuan said, ‘Hong Kong and Zhongshan are both key bases in talent training and innovative research in the Greater Bay Area, being the main force in building an international innovation and technology center in the future. There are broad and far-reaching spaces for cooperation in innovation, technology, and talent nurturing. I look forward to more achievements and Hong Kong’s contribution to the overall development of the country.” Secretary Guo remarked, “Zhongshan will give full play to its unique geographical and industrial advantages, and work closely with CUHK in innovation, entrepreneurship, knowledge transfer, and talent development. Together, we can build an innovation platform to drive talent gathering and concerted developments in the Greater Bay Area.”
CUHK has always attached great importance to establishing a close partnership with the Chinese Mainland and promoting diversified collaborations. The University actively integrates into the national development plan, leverages Hong Kong’s unique advantages, and fully contributes to the development of the Greater Bay Area (GBA). CUHK is Hong Kong’s first university to establish a comprehensive presence in GBA that drives and facilitates collaboration in the region’s educational and research developments.
