President of Beijing Language and Culture University (BLCU) Professor Duan Peng led a delegation to visit The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) on 28 July. He was received by Professor Chan Wai-Yee, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of CUHK; Professor Peggy Mok, Associate Dean (Student Affairs) of the Faculty of Arts and Acting Chairman of the Department of Linguistics and Modern Languages; and Professor Tang Sze-Wing, Chairman of the Department of Chinese Language and Literature. Both sides held discussions to strengthen cooperation in a range of including research collaboration, student interflows, and talent training.
CUHK and BLCU have a long-term partnering relationship. Over the years, the two universities have carried out collaborations in different fields, covering research, and executive and student exchanges. In 2016, the two universities established the Joint Research Centre for Chinese Linguistics and Applied Linguistics, as an extension of the national key research base in humanities and social sciences. The Centre not only promotes the concerted development of Chinese linguistics research and teaching in Asia but also has achieved remarkable results in various research fields.
On 3 August, Professor Ning Qi, Vice President of Peking University (PKU) led a delegation to visit The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). She met with Professor Nick Rawlins, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Student Experience) of CUHK, and Ms. Ng Wing Yi Stefani, Acting Director of the Office of Student Affairs, to share views and experiences on student affairs. Discussion was also held on enhancing the exchanges on student nurturing.
Since signing the academic exchange agreement in 1985, CUHK and PKU have achieved fruitful results in research and development, executive training, and student exchange. The two universities have established the Ministry of Education Key Laboratory of High-Confidence Software Technology and partnered to build up the Joint Research Centre for Language and Human Complexity. In early 2019, CUHK and PKU signed a cooperation agreement on undergraduate dual-degree programmes to strengthen joint efforts to cultivate talents in both regions.
The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) welcomed a delegation led by Mr. Liang Qinru, Deputy Director General of the Department of Science and Technology of Guangdong Province on 4 August. The delegation met with Professor Chan Wai Yee, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of CUHK, and visited the State Key Laboratory of Agrobiotechnology (CUHK). CUHK representatives who joined the meeting included Professor Song Chunshan, Dean of Science; Professor Lan Huiyao, Associate Dean (Mainland Affairs) of Faculty of Medicine; Professor Lam Hong-Ming, Director of State Key Laboratory of Agrobiotechnology (CUHK); Ms. Wing Wong, Director of China Engagement; and Dr. Gene Man, Knowledge Transfer Events Manager of Office of Research and Knowledge Transfer Services.
The two parties at the meeting discussed a number of topics, including promoting the co-construction and sharing of large scientific facilities, exploring collaboration opportunities in key projects and platforms between Guangdong and Hong Kong, building platforms for scientific and technological talents in Guangdong and Hong Kong, exploring talent exchange and training mechanisms, as well as the developments of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao joint laboratory.
Mr. Li Wenhua, Deputy Director General of the Department of Science and Technology of Heilongjiang Province, led a delegation to visit The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) on 21 August. The delegation met with Professor Chan Wai-Yee, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of CUHK, and other representatives, including Professor Chan Sun-On, Associate Vice-President (Education); Professor Lam Hong Ming, Director of State Key Laboratory of Agrobiotechnology (CUHK); and Ms. Wing Wong, Director of China Engagement. CUHK members gave a brief introduction on the recent development of the University. Both sides had discussions on further collaboration opportunities. The visit provided a valuable opportunity to exchange ideas and build up links. The delegates visited the State Key Laboratory of Agrobiotechnology (CUHK) after the meeting.
