Professor Tan Tieniu, Party Secretary of Nanjing University (NJU) led a delegation to visit The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) on 13 April. He held a meeting with Professor Rocky S. Tuan, Vice Chancellor of CUHK. They exchanged views on the joint training of students, faculty exchange, and future collaboration plans of the joint research center between CUHK and NJU. During the meeting, Professor Tan and Professor Tuan signed an agreement on strategic collaboration on behalf of both universities.
CUHK and NJU have been in close partnership since 1994 in a wide range of collaborative projects including research collaboration and student exchange programmes. Both universities joined hands to build the joint scoliosis research center in 2006 with the aim of promoting research development and talent nurturing as China’s first research unit in scoliosis.
Director Liu Jin and Deputy Director Shu Gangbo of the Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan Affairs Office of the National Ministry of Education (MOE) visited The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) on 14 April. CUHK Vice-Chancellor, Professor Rocky S. Tuan held a meeting with the delegation. Both parties shared ideas on the recent and future strategic development of the University. Professor Tuan expressed gratitude to MOE for the consistent support to CUHK, stating that the University will continue its effort to contribute broadly to the national strategies on education, innovation, and talent cultivation.
Professor Qiu Yong, Party Secretary of Tsinghua University (Tsinghua) led a delegation to visit The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). CUHK Vice Chancellor, Professor Rocky S. Tuan, and CUHK senior members welcomed the delegation. Both sides agreed to expand the scope of collaboration in a range of areas, comprising technology development, sustainability, biomedicine, health care, and talent training. During the visit, Tsinghua Art Museum and CUHK Art Museum signed a strategic collaboration framework agreement.
Since the first academic exchange agreement between the two universities was signed in 1985, the ties and exchanges between CUHK and Tsinghua have been continuously strengthened, ranging from teaching, research to student affairs and executive exchanges. The two universities jointly established the MBA program in Finance, Joint Research Center for Chinese Economy, and Dual Degree Program in Economics, and co-organized World Philanthropy Forum.
The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) received the delegation of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) on 24 May. The delegation was led by Vice President of CAS Professor Zhang Yaping with delegates including the Director of Shenzhen Institutes of Advanced Technology (SIAT) Professor Fan Jianping and other senior members from relevant research institutes. CUHK members comprised of Professor Chan Wai-Yee, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Strategic Development); Professor Qin Ling, Assistant Dean of Faculty of Medicine; Professor Xu Jianbin, Assistant Dean of Engineering and academic members from joint research units. Both parties reviewed the progress of CUHK-CAS joint projects and devised future collaboration plans on talent training and innovative research. After the meeting, the delegation visited the Joint Laboratory of Bio-resources and Molecular Research of Common Diseases and the Centre for Novostics for academic exchanges.
CUHK has been in close collaboration with CAS in academic exchange and research collaboration since the partnership establishment in 1986. Apart from the state key laboratories and joint laboratories, the two parties joined hands with Shenzhen Municipal Government to establish SIAT in February 2006. CUHK has been organizing the CAS Academicians Visit Programme cum Lecture Series annually since 2007. CUHK-CAS Partnership Steering Committee was established in 2014 to forge an effective and sustainable relationship.
A delegation led by Fudan University (FDU) Vice President Professor Xu Lei visited The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) on 28 June. CUHK Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Education) Professor Poon Wai Yin welcomed the delegates and held the meeting with Professor Xu. Both parties gave updates on curriculum reform, general education, and postgraduate programmes. Participants also exchanged views on the challenges ahead. After the meeting, the delegation visited the CUHK Innovation Port to learn about its operation in building up CUHK’s innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem.
CUHK and FDU have carried out a wide range of collaborative projects since the establishment of the partnership in 1985. Both universities are key member institutions of the Association of University Presidents of China, Shanghai-Hong Kong University Alliance, and Alliance of University General Education.
On 5 July, a delegation led by Professor Xi Guang, Vice President of Xi’an Jiaotong University (XJTU) visited The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). The delegates were received by CUHK Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Strategic Development) Professor Chan Wai-Yee and Ms. Wing Wong, Director of China Engagement. Discussions were held to review the major collaboration projects including the progress of the joint research center, and the participation of the Universities Alliance of the New Silk Road. Collaboration plans were devised to enhance the linkages between the two universities. The delegation visited CUHK’s Innovation Port and exchanged views with Professor Benny Zee, Director of the Office of Research and Knowledge Transfer Service, on innovation and entrepreneurship initiatives.
